Illinois Toll Road Pass: I-pass

I-Pass is the electronic payment collection system operated by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) on the toll highways. It was introduced on November 18, 1993, with the opening of Interstate 355 (Veterans Memorial Tollway). The same transponder is used as the system uses.

I-Pass transponders are used at all toll plazas, incorporated with those located on the entrance and exit inclines. A crucial benefit to using the -Pass is that the main toll plazas were renovated to set up the, for the I-Pass travellers so that they can drive straight through the toll plaza passing under transponder signals at conventional speeds, the cash customers are needed to stop at the side of the road on the conventional toll booths. I-Pass Login Procedure

How to Make Toll Payments on Illinois Toll Road?

Here are a few ways, users can make toll payments online if they have an account or they can even use other suggested methods to make the payments.

Online Payment:

  1. Visit Illinois Tollway website
  2. Go to the trip calculator webpage
  3. Enter the following information to calculate the toll: entry point, exit point, vehicle class and payment type
  4. Time of day.
  5. You’ll then at the stage to calculate the total toll you owe
  6. Tab on “Pay Unpaid Tolls Online” to complete the payment.

Make sure that you need to follow this process within seven days of receiving your toll transaction charges.

Pay by Mail

There are some cases where you need to pay your toll by mail instead of online.

  • Submit a filled up unpaid toll payment form
  • Attached with a check or money order to Illinois Tollway at P.O. Box 5382 Chicago, IL 60680-5382
  • Make sure cash is not to be sent

In order to pay by mail, you’ll have to provide the following details:

  1. Name of the owner of the registered vehicle.
  2. The license plate’s state, number and type (you’ll have to identify speciality plates)

Illinois Toll Road Violation & Fines

If in any case motorist does not have cash at the time of passing through a toll plaza, or the credit card on record for I-PASS account may have ended. Then the driver can go for online payment or can make payment by mail within seven-day. The driver must recognize the unpaid toll location (toll plaza name or number) at the time of payment submission. If a person forgets the period of grace, the unpaid toll is a violation of Colorado toll roads.

Notices of Toll Violation are sent to customers who haven’t made payment for more than three or more toll violations in one year. This notice describes that registered owner of the vehicle must pay a preliminary fine of $20 per violation and unpaid tolls at the cash rate. If the original fine unpaid for 30 days, an additional $50 fine will be charged. This means that preliminary charge of $3 toll can increase to $70.

Notice of Toll Violation is sent via the post office and it includes a photo of the violation actions as per the Illinois toll record in addition to factors date, time, and location of the violation. After the third violation in Illinois, the Tollway sends a violation notice within 90 days of the transaction.
